Who I am

This website belongs to Tim Brennan, a freelance vision engineer trading as The Digital Room Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. For the purposes of UK data protection law that company is the data controller for this site.

The quickest way to reach me about anything on this page is the contact form. If you would rather write to me by post, ask through the form and I will give you an address.

What the contact form collects

The form asks for your name, your email address, a subject and your message. All four go straight to my inbox as an email. I use them for one thing only: to read what you have sent and reply to it.

I do not add you to any mailing list, I do not have a mailing list, and I do not pass your details to anyone else. There is no newsletter to unsubscribe from.

To stop the form being abused by spammers, the site briefly records a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address so it can tell that the same visitor has sent several messages in quick succession. That hash cannot be turned back into your IP address and is discarded automatically.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of visitors between pages or between sites. Nothing is stored on your device, so there is nothing here for you to accept or refuse.

Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps standard access logs recording which pages were requested and when, along with the IP address and browser that requested them. Those are generated by the hosting provider, kept briefly for security and troubleshooting, and are not used to build any profile of you.

How long I keep things

Messages stay in my inbox for as long as they are useful for the conversation and any work that follows, and are deleted when they are not. If we end up working together, I may need to keep correspondence longer for business and tax records.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me for a copy of anything I hold about you, ask me to correct it if it is wrong, ask me to delete it, ask for it in a portable format, or object to my using it. Just ask through the contact form and I will respond within one month.

If you think I have handled your information badly, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If I start collecting anything new, or start using a service that sets cookies, I will update this page before I do it and change the date below.
